Supported Good Causes

Christian Aid is an agency of the churches in the UK and Ireland. They work wherever the need is greatest – irrespective of religion or race.

Because they believe in strengthening people to find their own solutions to the problems they face, they support local organisations, which are best placed to understand local needs. They also give help on the ground through 16 overseas offices.

Christian Aid strives for a new world transformed by an end to poverty and they campaign to change the rules that keep people poor.

Every year, St. Peter's participates with collections around the local area. For more information, please speak to Liz Glencross or watch this space!

The Christian Aid house-to-house collection raised £1097.05 this year. Many thanks to all the volunteers!

Winchmore Hill Community Care

Winchmore Hill Community Care came into being in 1982 through the vision and concern of local resident Mike Gregory.  From his own experience of redundancy and his Christian commitment the idea of ‘drop-in’ centres was born.  By 1986 the service was involved in many aspects of social care.  Today we operate as a good neighbour scheme offering help and support to the housebound, elderly and lonely in and around the N21 area.  We are sponsored by the seven  churches in Winchmore Hill, including St Peter’s..  Our volunteers can help with visiting and befriending, shopping, transport, information etc. in order to help our clients  maintain their independence at home.   We also have a weekly yoga club.  Can we help you or maybe you know a friend or neighbour who might benefit.  Please  do get in touch.

Volunteers (particularly drivers ) are always welcome so if you have an hour or two to spare for visiting, shopping and driving, do make contact.
We look forward to hearing from you!

FairTrade

The FairTade Foundation is the independent non-profit organisation that licenses use of the FAIRTRADE Mark on products in the UK in accordance with internationally agreed Fairtrade standards. The Foundation is the UK member of Fairtrade Labelling Organisations International (FLO), which unites 21 labelling initiatives across Europe, Japan, North America, Mexico and Australia/New Zealand as well as networks of producer organisations from Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean.

Their vision is of a world in which justice and sustainable development are at the heart of trade structures and practices so that everyone, through their work, can maintain a decent and dignified livelihood and develop their full potential.

To achieve this vision, Fairtrade seeks to transform trading structures and practices in favour of the poor and disadvantaged. By facilitating trading partnerships based on equity and transparency, Fairtrade contributes to sustainable development for marginalised producers, workers and their communities. Through demonstration of alternatives to conventional trade and other forms of advocacy, the Fairtrade movement empowers citizens to campaign for an international trade system based on justice and fairness

What can I do?

Mission To Seafarers

The Mission To Seafarers
Loneliness, danger and separation from loved ones are just some of the problems seafarers face. Around the world, night and day, The Mission to Seafarers provides help and support to those in need. As a Christian agency, they work in more than 230 ports caring for the practical and spiritual welfare of seafarers of all nationalities and faiths.

Through their global network of chaplains, staff and volunteers they reach out to seafarers by visiting them on their ships, offering them the hand of welcome and friendship, and caring for them in their hour of need.

In over 100 ports they also run centres which provide ‘a home away from home’. These are places where seafarers can contact their loved ones from whom they are separated for months on end, receive assistance with any problems they may be facing and get a break from their demanding way of life onboard ship.

What can I do?

  • Collect money to donate towards the Mission To Seafarers in exchange for giving up something you love during Lent. Collection boxes are available at the back of the church during this time.
  • Visit the Mission To Seafarers website

St. Peter's Church is devoted to helping those less fortunate than ourselves.
This page details information about what we raise money for, and how it is spent by these organisations.
